Fall Fashion Fun Must-Have: the Dashing White Cape!

I say: “Fall Colors!”

Quick…what jumps to mind?

Perhaps a rich palette of muted earth-inspired hues such as lush foliage-green, acorn brown, sunset yellow, and perhaps a splash of cranberry.

But white?

Absolutely! And, should you be feeling particularly fabulous, head-to-toe!

Now, if you live anywhere where those beautifully crisp & straight-from-Central-Casting fall leaves suddenly give way to real life’s winter sleet & nasty slush, you already know that outerwear in shades of bright white or delicate cream probably rates as the most impractical piece of clothing ever.

But on the Fashion Fun-O-Meter, it kills.

Pristine, uncluttered, and when the mercury drops, unexpected. “We need fantasy,” predicted trendspotter Emmanuelle Linard of Edelkoort Inc. last year. “Mythological characters…goddesses, nymphs, fauns, mythical creatures.” Which Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli were definitely tapping into for their ethereal Valentino Haute Couture collection for Fall 2011. The duo channeled a fairytale-like lost world, including a flower festooned dress “with pleated tulle wings flying from the shoulders [that] was so Neverland-ready,” mused Tim Blanks (one of our fave fashion writers), “it was a wonder it didn’t elevate then and there from the catwalk.”

Which a white cape will, endowing you with incredible Fashion Superpowers that promise to put you in a Style Class by yourself. Wham, bam, sha-zam!
