Her colourful and graphic slip-cast porcelain pieces are all about creating individuals. Her works include “at a pinch”, a collection of hand-made, collectable, ‘pinch’ birds, reflecting traditions of porcelain production with finely painted flourishes and gold detail. Each made to capture individual personality and maintain a species identity.

The “Sweater Birds” collection is a particular favourite, with the folk art inspired jumpers on these delicate porcelain birds. Once again the theme of individuality is played with. Katy described the ornaments as; “Frustrated at not having their own identity both as a bird within a species and as a piece within production, these knitwear birds too drastic action to become individuals.” During the casting process the mould was clipped before each cast to create individual character variations, allowing the birds to break free of the production boundaries. Each ‘sweater’ was chosen on consultation of individual birds, then hand screen-printed and fitted to provide a tailored bespoke garment.
